Last Day at the JCP

So tomorrow is my last day at my current job at JCPenney, Johnsburg, store number 2951. It's been a year and 4 months since I was hired. It's a bitter sweet feeling. I have had an intense and extreme love hate relationship with this job. This job, being my first, has truely changed me as well as taught me many many things. From all that I have learned from this medium sized JCPenney store, I can not imagine what Disney has in store for me. I have been lucky enough to meet and work with so many wonderful people that I will never forget. I have had many many bad times in this store, but majority of the people I worked with made it worth it. I will miss them all very much,  but I am beyond excited to start a new journey. Working in the happiest place on earth and participating in the college program has been a dream of mine ever since I can remember. It's hard to believe my dream with actually become a reality three short weeks. With that, I'd just like to thank all the people that helped give me the good times at jcp, as well as the people that I am so excited to meet and work with at Disney!

30 Day Disney World Challenge

So I saw some girl has started this 30 day Disney World Challenge that Looked really fun, so I decided I'd do it too :)

Day 1: Favorite Park

Waiting On The Future

I know I haven't updated in a while, so I figured I would. I now have 5 other roommates besides Hailey who I mentioned in my last post. I'll start off with Nicole. She's originally from North Carolina, but currently goes to school at University of Southern Florida in Tampa. We haven't talked much, but she seems really nice! Next we got Kaylee. She's from Las Vegas and goes to College of Southern Nevada where ironically, my boyfriend plans on going!  Kaylee's super cool and fun. She's actually going to fly down and stay in my condo with my mom and I until check in. She's never been to WDW so I'm excited to show her around. Then there's Haley without an I haha. She's from the St.Louis area.  Her and I are going to be actual "room mates" and share a room. She's awesome. We both wanna go out a lot, so we figured it would be smart to room together in case our other roomies don't so we won't wake them up when we come home. Next there's Bridget. She's one of our newer roommates. She's from Port Angeles, WA (hello Twilight Saga!). She also has a boyfriend who she plans on staying together with during the program. She over all seems like a sweet girl. Last theirs Katelyn from New Jersey. She seems really fun and nice! We are waiting to hear if Nicole's friend got into the program because if she did, then she will room with us. Right now we think we're going to live in Chathem because we heard it's really chill, has a bus stop, tennis and volley ball courts andd the fact that we think it's the only complex with 4 bedrooms! My mom is on the edge about me having so many roommates, but the apartment with be much bigger. I believe we get 2 fridge's and 2.5 baths.
I also discovered a facebook group called Disney College Program: Spring/Spring Advantage 2012 (Raw & Uncensored). I really like this group because everyone in it is so cool and chill! I've met a few super fun people from it. One of them is Vinny. He's done the program before as a "Turkey Leg Boy". That's his facebook occupation haha. He's bi sexual and superrr funny! He deff. seems like he knows how to have a good time, so I'm excited to meet him! I've heard there's a party bus that takes you to clubs, which I am beyonddd excited for! I can't wait to start having fun and making memories! I'm afraid I'm not going to want to come home even though my parents are ordering me to! We'll see what Happens! I also officially booked my flight for the 14th and get into Orlando at 11:35. Kaylee's flight gets in the 15th at 430ish,so my mom and I are going to go to one of the parks during the morning/day and then have Kaylee take a bus to one of the disney resorts and pick her up! We'll probably go to Downtown Disney at night to show her around and then watch fireworks from one of the resorts! Well I'll update again when I have more goodies! 88 days til take off hollerrr!

Just the Beginning

So It's been a few days since I was accepted, and I'm already having a great time meeting people. Wednesday night I met this girl Michelle from New York. She's doing the spring program as a life guard. I can already tell we're gunna be great friends! We plan on going out together a lot. Last night I met her roommate who also seems very cool, so I am super excited to meet them both!Wednesday I also met this girl Hailey who is very nice. She is also in merchandise for Spring Advantage and moving in on the same day as me. Last night Hailey and I decided we should be roommates. We are still searching for more people, but I'm happy with her so far. Both of us are super excited, but agree we will probably over pack haha. Speaking of packing, I couldn't help it today and brought a big plastic bin up to my room and went through my summer tanks and bathing suits and put them in the bin to bring down with me. I also found a cute alarm clock to bring down that my sister used to use. The next 3 months are going to dragggg! My mom decided we are leaving the 13th or 14th of January to head down, so I have approximately 105 days left! I also decided I'm going to resign from my current job at jcpenney on December 29th, which I am counting down- 90 days! Well that's it for now!

The Happiest Day Of My Life!

Wednesday, September 28th 2011 12:36pm

After waiting for over a week since people started being accepted, I started to give up. I figured if they were accepting by role, I had a few more weeks till they hit mine. Today as I was driving to school, my phone went off. Although it's illegal to text and drive, I clicked my screen to see who had texted me. "alert@mobile.live.com/ / [Hotmail] wdw.college.recruiting@disney.com: Disney College Program: Congratulations!" My heart started to pound as I started screaming " OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! " I was hyper ventilating the entire time as I tried to dial my dad's cell phone. I was trying to talk and breath at the same time as I told him I got an email that said congrats! When I finally was parked at school and was able to open the email, it said I was offered a position at wdw! I tried logging in to accept, but it wasnt working on my phone! I could not concentrate in my math class. I decided to skip my last and second class of the day to head home to accept! I ran thoguh the house to my computer. When I finally opened my offical acceptance letter, it said I was offered merchandise at $7.31 an hour. I currently work retail at jcpenney which at times makes me wanna die, although I am paid $8.61/ hour. The fact that I didn't get offered a top choice role and recieved a low interest choice of working retail again along with a dollar thirty deduction was a little hard to take it, but i didnt care. I was offered an amazingggg oportunity, something i've been dreaming of doing for so many years! So of course I accepted! When it came time to pick my arrival date, I was again a bit disappointed to find out the earliest arrival date left was January 18th, but hey what can you do?! I will now offically be living in the happiest place on earth January 18th - August 3rd,2012. I am beyondd excited to start this amazing journey and learning experience!

Anxiously Waiting

Thursday, September 22nd 2011 9:12am

So yesterday I found out people started getting accepted into the program. I am still anxiously waiting for my response. My dashboard still says "In progress" which I guess is good. Most of the people that seem to have gotten their acceptance e-mails are for attractions, merchandise, quick food service, and some main entrance operations. This makes me hopefuly that maybe they are accepting based on role. My top choices were hospitality and concierge, none of which anyone has posted about being accepted to that I have seen. Tomorrow marks 2 weeks since my phone interview. My dad predicted I would have found out this past Tuesday, he clearly lost the bet haha. I predicted tomorrow since it's the 2 week mark. My silly boyfriend predicted a month and a half (I pray he is wrong by far!), but ya never knowww! I set up my e-mail so that I get texts anytime I get a new e-mail. Every time my phone beeps, I jump and cross my fingers that it says wdw.recruiting! gahh! I'll keep ya updated!

After the Interview!

Friday, September 9th 2011 12:46pm

I just finished my phone interview. They called about 10 minutes late. My interviewer was very nice. My interview only lasted 9 minutes and I was quite surprised. Although my dad pointed out that I talk fast in general, and if I was talking slower that time could have doubled. She asked me questions about my current work experience and what I have gained from it and what it's like as well as any other work I have done. She asked me what my top choices of work were as well as how i feel about the living aspect of it. She also asked if I prefer fast paced or slow paced work, working as a team or an individual, if i had any visible tattoos or piercings, if i'm comfortable working on stage in front of people, if i'm aware of the job descriptions and pay rate. I've heard in the past that they usually ask specific situational questions about each role, but she didn't ask me any so i was kind of confused. I hope it went well, but i can only hope for the best! She said I would hear from them in 2-3 weeks.

Almost Interview Time!

Friday, September 9th 2011 11:55am

So my phone interview is in 25 mins, but they say they sometimes call between  15 minutes early and 15 minutes late. I am freaking out. I am full of so many emotions. Nerves, excitement, confidence, fear. All at the same time! I feel I am a great candidate and will do good and be accepted, but i'm also scared there's always that chance they don't like me. This is unreal to me, that the phone interview I've been thinking about and waiting for for so many years now is finally here!  This is my one big shot at getting in! This interview could change my entire future and open so many doors for my life and future career. It's insane!!! Well I guess I should probably try and settle down. I made sure I was comfortable wearing sweat pants and a tee shirt as well as sitting on top on a really soft blanket in my chair. I know, I sound crazy but! Wellllll, i'll update after it's over! Wish me luck!

Application and Web Based Interview

Tuesday,  September 6th 2011 3:59pm

So yesterday morning I found out applications would be posted on the 6th and became extremely excited. Around 10:15pm central time I was searching on the Disney College Program Facebook page and noticed a girl commenting on something saying she just applied. My heart started racing, so i went to the website (disneycollegeprogram.com) and the girl wasn't lieing! I could finally apply! I expected the application to take at least an hour, but I was wrong. It asked the initial questions like: Are you 18? Where did/ do you go to school? What's your work experience?. It also asked my first and second choice programs. After I answered those it brought up all the jobs available for CP's and you had to choose for each of them: High Interest, Moderate Interest, Low Interest, or No Interest. I've heard that if you do not want to do a job tell them no so you don't get stuck, so I made sure to do so. After I filled those in, it asked me if I'd be willing to work at Disneyland for the program. I'd prefer Walt Disney World, but hey better California then nothing! Then it of course asked about my criminal record(which is clean) and that was about it. All in all it took about 15 minutes. Right after I finished the application I decided to go to web. I woke up in the middle of the night and my phone said I had 5 new messages! 2 of which were thank you e-mails for applying and one saying I was selected for the Web Based Interview! I was so excited that I changed my alarm clock to wake me up earlier so I could do the WBI before I headed to class today. I woke up, had some breakfast and headed to the computer. The first set of question on the WBI were about living (ex. your cleanliness, need for personal space, who you'd prefer to live you). The next set of questions were multiple choice questions and I had 50 seconds to complete each of them. Most of them were What would you do? and preference questions about working. The last set of questions on the WBI were rating 1-5 which I had 20 seconds to answer each. I had been told previously NEVER ANSWER NEUTRAL! So I definitely steered clear of that answer. Luckily, I had a great day at work yesterday where I worked very hard, got a lot done and pleased my managers, so while answering these questions I was thinking back to my work day yesterday and how good I did (not that I don't work hard every other day), but it was a good confidence booster! Once I finished which took me about a half hour, the screen changed and said Congratulations- you have been identified as a strong candidate! your next step is to schedule a phone interview. You will have the ability to schedule your interview appointment in approx. 24 hours and that they would email me when I could. I figured I wouldn't get the email until later in the day, so I started getting ready for school. about 10 minutes later my phone went off and it was the email that I could schedule my interview. Wow that was fast! So I went to log into my CP account to schedule and it wouldn't log it! I literally tried about 20 times and almost started to have a heart attack, so I called the recruiting office. The lady I talked to was very nice, but had to put me on hold a few times. While on hold I figured I'd try to log in on my own one more time. I finally got it! A weight lifted off my shoulders! So I scheduled my interview for Friday, Sept. 9th at 12:15pm. The lady finally came back on the phone and I told her I finally got in and was scheduled and thanked her anyways! Now I am so excited but nervous for my interview. I haven't even decided exactly what my top 3 choices are for where to work or which housing complex I prefer to live in! I better get on that! I'll update again friday after the interview, wish me luck!
